My son received this Duplo train set (5609) for his second birthday. He really enjoys watching the train go around the track and stopping it in front of the fueling station to hear the "glug glug" noise when he fuels it up. He also loves raising and lowering the traffic barriers on the track and driving the freight truck in and out. His favorite thing however is derailing the trains, crashing them into the truck, taking all the structures apart and then putting everything back together again (with a little help from mom). Thankfully the pieces are all really sturdy and have held up will to his abuse

At two years old he is a bit small for some of the fiddlier parts, such as twisting the small wheels to raise and lower the hook on the crane and to turn the conveyor belt. I could see him growing into some of these parts of the toy however, and thus hopefully maintaining his interest in this toy. We will probably extend the track in the future with some of the add-ons, although certain pieces, like the bridge, seem pretty expensive to me.

All in all, this has been a great first train set for a young child and I think he will enjoy it for a long time to come.
